Catherine Virginia Patrick

May 24, 1939 — April 16, 2023

Folkston

Folkston, Georgia – Catherine Virginia Patrick, beloved mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother, passed away peacefully at home on April 16, 2023, at the age of 83.  She was born on May 24, 1939, in Ramer, Montgomery Co, Alabama to Wylie W. and Lucy Virginia (Abernathy) Jinright.

Cathy was the oldest of three children and took on the role of caregiver and protector to her two younger brothers.  On September 18, 1955, at the age of 16 she was wed to James Donald Gilbert (Don) in Macon, Bibb Co, Georgia.  Though this relationship wasn’t permanent, they did have 3 children together and remained friends afterwards.  While both went on the remarry, Cathy and Don remained in touch throughout their lives.

Cathy loved jewelry.  She worked in the jewelry business for many years at Sears & Roebuck, serving as manager of Bailey, Banks, and Biddle in Duluth, Georgia.  She later owned her own jewelry store, Jewelry Outlet in Lilburn, Georgia.

While working at Sears & Roebuck, Cathy met the love of her life, Jack Ronald Patrick.  They were married on New Year’s Eve 1969 in Hapeville, Fulton Co, Georgia.  During their marriage they lived in Metro Atlanta, Georgia, Tampa, Florida, Callahan, Florida, and finally settled in Folkston, Georgia.  Cathy always had a dream of owning a consignment shop.  After moving to Folkston, she became the owner operator of Whistle Stop Consignment for several years.

A seamstress and craft enthusiast at heart, she often made clothes, drapes, flower arrangements, and did ceramics.  If she had a free moment, you could find her behind a sewing machine or making scrapbooks for her children and grandchildren.

It is believed that her best and favorite job was a grandmother.  Cathy was incredibly involved in the lives of her grandchildren.  Many birthday parties, holidays, celebrations, and sleepovers were held at her home.  She always had an open door, and everyone was welcome.  Her heart was most full when she was surrounded by her loved ones.

A lifelong Christian, Catherine had attended the First Baptist Church of Boulougne in Hilliard, Florida.  Unfortunately, in recent years she had been unable to visit due to increasing health difficulties.  However, she remained fervent in her faith and remained a child of God until her last breath.

Catherine was predeceased in death by her father and stepmother, Wylie W. Jinright (Blanche), mother and stepfather, Lucy Virginia Birch (Harold), and her beloved husband Jack R Patrick.  Survivors include her brother Ed Jinright (Glynda), Larry Jinright; Children, Bonnie Grant, Mike Gilbert, Donna Rau, Ron Patrick (Mindy), Kathy-Lynn Humphreys, Darren Patrick (Cheryl); Grandchildren, Laila (Ricko), Brittney (Josh), Amanda, William (Kim), Wylie (Camila), Teresa, Zachariah, Christy, Lindsay, Wesley, and Ryan; Great-grandchildren, Ashton, Kingston, Elijah, Zelda, and Hailey.

Visitation will be Wednesday April 19th from 6:00pm-8:00pm at Shepard-Roberson Funeral Home, Folkston, Georgia, with funeral services on Thursday April 20th at 2:30pm at the Jacksonville National Cemetery, Jacksonville, Florida.
