Ethel Gowen

Ethel Fay Harrison Gowen, 89 of Folkston passed away November 13, 2014 at her residence. She was born September 7, 1925 in St. Marys, Georgia to Robert Ward and Eva Buckley Harrison.
She was a volunteer at the Nursing Home, the Library and Hospice. She was the first female member of the Board of Education for 5 years from 1968 through 1972.  She was past president of the Business and Professional Women’s Club, a member of Folkston United Methodist Church and Keenagers Sunday School class.
Survivors include: her son, Guy Gowen; three Grandchildren; Amber (Steve) Turner, Haley (Tyler) Morgan, Hal Gowen; Great-grandchildren: Emma Turner, Hadleigh Gowen; Sister: Ruby Gowen; brother: Kenneth Harrison; several nieces, nephews and other relatives.
She was preceded in death by her Husband: Guy Albert Gowen, Sr.; a brother: Robert W. Harrison, Jr.; a sister: Jesse Mae Pickren.
The family will receive friends Sunday, November 16, 2014 at the funeral home from 6 until 8 PM. Funeral services will be Monday, November 17, 2014 at the Folkston United Methodist Church at 11:00 AM with Rev. Jack Varnell and Rev. Gene McCullough officiating. Burial will follow in Trader’s Hill Cemetery.
