Eugene (Gene) Edward Crews, a devoted husband and father, cherished grandfather, great grandfather, and dear friend, passed away peacefully on Friday February 23, 2024. His last days were spent surrounded by loving family and friends before being united with his Lord and Savior.

Born in Folkston, GA, to Oscar and Esther Crews, he is preceded in death by Oscar and Esther and his beloved wife Mary Trease Crews, with whom he shared three children, Steven Edward Crews, Randolph Gregory Crews and Audrey Denise (Crews) Sandlin.

He met Trease at Berry college and married. At the age of 22, Gene enlisted into the Marine Corps and served his country for 20 years until retiring as a Lieutenant Colonel. He dedicated his career to serving his county while receiving numerous recognitions and military commendations.

In 2018, Gene married Ann Kelly Crews, his second life partner and joy of his heart. He was blessed with eight grandchildren and 4 great grandchildren, who brought him immense joy and to which he left an indelible imprint on their souls.

His family brought him tremendous joy, love, and laughter. What defined him most was his unwavering faith and devotion to God. He practiced his Christian faith and demonstrated it through acts of kindness, sharing his beliefs, and connecting with others on a deep and personal level. His ability to strike up conversations with others was remarkable and he left a lasting impression on everyone he met.

Gene’s legacy lives on through his loving family. He is survived by his devoted wife, Ann in whom he found devout partnership and love. He leaves behind his beloved children and grandchildren from his first marriage: Steve (Val, Courtney and Trevor), Greg (Jane, Justin, Keith, Jordan and Kayla), and Denise (Reed, Whitney, and Taylor).

Gene navigated his death in the same manner he navigated his life, with honor, dignity and strength.
