Georgia Steinbach Williams passed away peacefully at home on December 24, 2025. Georgia
was born October 4, 1931 in Tomahawk, Wisconsin, daughter of the late Frances (Kershaw)
and George Steinbach. As a child Georgia moved to Franklin, Virginia but always held
Tomahawk and her Wisconsin family close in her heart and memories. An avid student, after
high school she attended James Madison University and the Medical College of Virginia,
becoming certified as a Medical Technologist through the American Society for Clinical
Pathology, a ground breaking time in the development of the profession.
In 1951 Georgia married Cookie Williams, making homes and friends in Richmond, VA, Rocky
Mount, NC, Franklin, VA, and finally in 1973, Folkston, GA, where she remained after Cookie’s
death in 2009, until moving to Collierville, TN in 2017. She was preceded in death by her
parents, husband, daughter-in-law Cindy Coley Williams, sister Shirlie Steinbach Camp,
brother-in-law Billy Camp, and sister-in-law Ann Clark Steinbach. She is survived by her
brother, Roger Steinbach of Suffolk, VA, her children, Susan (Neil) Burgess of Gallatin, TN, Ann
(Dale) Taylor of Collierville, TN, and George Williams of Bradley, SC, grandchildren, Greg (Kim)
Burgess of Vinton, VA, Amanda (Phil) Taylor of St. Charles, MO, Chandler (Brandi) Taylor of
McClellanville, SC and Karl Williams of Rohnert Park, CA, great grandchildren, nieces,
nephews, cousins, and many close friends.
Georgia worked as a medical technologist for many years at Southampton Medical Center in
Franklin, VA. In Folkston, she worked in the local State Farm Agent’s office, getting to know
and help the community, being fondly remembered by many as Ms.Georgia.
Over the years Georgia had many hobbies and volunteer experiences, always interested in
learning something new, from being a Girl Scout as a child to most recently volunteering with
Hospice of the Golden Isles. These include Junior League and Garden Club of Virginia, Sunday
School Teacher and Altar Guild member of Emmanuel Episcopal Church in Franklin, VA, Good
Shepherd Episcopal Church in Rocky Mount, NC, and Folkston United Methodist Church, Girl
Scout Leader, Embroiderers Guild of America, and Garden Club of Folkston.
Georgia loved gardening, studying plants and flowers, visiting nurseries and formal gardens,
and planning and working in her own garden. She often returned home with a trunkful of plants
and plans for them. An extensive reader, she could spend hours in a bookstore and would often
be found in her den with her coffee and a book. Living away from her family, she always
especially looked forward to visits to and from her parents, children, siblings, nieces and
nephews. Her door and table were always open, even if dinner was often late. A lifelong
enjoyer of animals, she almost always had dogs, cats, or both.
A graveside service will be held at 1:00 PM on Saturday, February 14, 2026, at Pineview Cemetery, Folkston, GA. Reception immediately following at 385 Gibson Post Road, Folkston, GA.
