James Walter Chesser, Sr.

James Walter Chesser, Sr., 94, of St. George, Georgia passed away on Friday, October 9, 2026. He was born in Folkston, Georgia, on March 1, 1932, to the late Robert A. Chesser and Cornelia Justice Chesser.

James was a devoted member of First Baptist Church of St. George, where he served as chairman of the deacons and faithfully maintained the church grounds for many years.

In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by his wife: Lillian W. Chesser; son: James W. Chesser, Jr.; and siblings: Louise Crews, Harold Chesser, Minnie Lee Rhoden, Alan H. Chesser, Linda M. Burnsed, Francis E. Chesser and Jack Chesser.

He is survived by his children: Darleen Crane, Kathy Dove and Gary (Angela) Chesser; daughter-in-law: Debbie Collins; sister: Maggie G. Patterson; 10 grandchildren: 16 great-grandchildren; 2 great-great-grandchildren; and a number of nieces and nephews.

A service will be held at 11:00 AM on Monday, October 12, 2026, at First Baptist Church of St. George with Pastor Dakota Quarles officiating. Burial will follow at St. George Cemetery. The family will receive friends prior to the service from 10:30 – 11:00 AM.
