James Lloyd Thompson

James Lloyd Thompson, 87, of Folkston, GA passed away July 18, 2025 in Fernandina Beach, FL. He was born in Sumter County, SC, to the late Lloyd Henry Thompson and Blanche Newman. James proudly served his country in the United States Air Force for 23 years. After the Air Force, James worked at Anheuser Busch for 20 years, Nassau County Sheriff’s Office as a crossing guard for 17 years, and Shepard-Roberson Funeral Home for 23 years. He was also a Mason for 33 years and an Eastern Star for 20 years.

In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by a daughter: Donna Thompson; 3-brothers: Raymond Thompson, Dickie Stewart and T.C. Stewart; and 2-sisters: Lil Brown and Betty Resser.

He is survived by his loving wife of 36 years: Wannell Thompson; his children: Patricia Phillips (Kim), David Thompson (Julie), Brian Thompson, Nancy Kale (George), Dale Clark (Arlinda) and Melissa Godbold (Gene); 16 grandchildren; 36 great-grandchildren; and 1 great-great-grandchild.

Funeral services will be held Tuesday, July 22, 2025 AT 11:00 AM at the First Baptist Church of Boulougne with Pastors Paul Lucas and Sonny Foraker officiating. The family will receive friends an hour prior to the service at the church. Burial will be Tuesday, July 22, 2025 at 2:00 PM at Jacksonville National Cemetery. Pallbearers will be James Hobbs, Adam Dyal, Mickey Henderson, Al Owen, David Manning, Charlie Hahn, Bob Howard, and Dave Gerwatosky.
