Jo Arbogast
Ruby Josephine Murray Arbogast, 75, of Homeland, Georgia passed away Friday, August 21, 2026. She was born in Jacksonville, FL, on December 3, 1950 to the late Holmes and Grace Murray. Jo was a 1968 graduate of Callahan High School.
Jo grew up with a love for horses, sunflowers, hummingbirds, and butterflies. She enjoyed a wonderful school life filled with pageants, horses, and her time as a majorette. She was raised in First Baptist Church of Callahan, Florida, where her father served as a deacon. Her father proudly served in the U.S. Navy during World War II, and her mother was a registered nurse at St. Vincent’s. Jo admired them both and hoped to follow in their footsteps. She spent some time pursuing nursing and later proudly served in the U.S. Air Force during the Vietnam era.
Jo went on to raise two beautiful, strong-willed daughters, who undoubtedly inherited a little of their mother’s spirit. She loved the freedom of the open road and especially enjoyed trips to visit her sister in Alabama—or anywhere else that happened to catch her fancy. She loved the beach, where she could soak up the sunshine, and in her later years, her favorite place on earth became her brother’s home in Ellijay, Georgia.
Those who knew Jo often described her as spirited, feisty, spunky, and full of life. She was all of those things and so much more. She lived life with a personality that was uniquely her own, and she left lasting memories wherever she went.
Jo was deeply loved by her family and by so many who had the privilege of knowing her. Her spirit, her strength, and her unforgettable personality will be greatly missed.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her loving husband Gary Arbogast and her siblings: Elizabeth Burch, Alyce McCroan, Donald Murray and Homer Murray.
She is survived by her daughters: Julie Stacks (Charles) and Jennifer Murray (Charles). She was granny to her grandchildren: Frankie Lane, Josh Stacks (Kathleen), Jaime Kelsey (Savannah), Justina Outler, Shelby Farmer (Michael), Christopher Murray, Dean Murray, Ashley Murray; great-grandchildren: Leelyn, Jada, Dominick, Hunter, Bryanna, Maylee, Marley, Russell, Khloe, Eleanor as well as numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.
The family will receive friends at Shepard-Roberson Funeral Home Chapel in Folkston, GA at 2:00pm on Friday, August 28, 2026. The memorial service will follow at 3:00pm with Michael Farmer officiating.
