Joseph David “Skeeter” SmithJoseph David “Skeeter” Smith, 78, passed away peacefully at his home on October 16, 2026.

Born and raised in Nassau County, Skeeter later made his home in Nahunta, Georgia. He spent many years as a truck driver, traveling countless miles and making lifelong friendships along the way. Known to many simply as “Skeeter,” he never met a stranger and had a way of making friends wherever he went. He was known and loved by many, and the friendships he made throughout his life were something he truly treasured.

He was preceded in death by his children, Daphne Smith Guynn and Lauren Smith; his parents, Robert and Wonell Smith; his brothers, Lamar and Roland Smith; and his sister, Cenia Smith.

He is survived by his wife, Ann Crews Smith; daughter, Daveda Smith; stepchildren, Buck Hartley, Mikki Hartley, and Mandy Cruz; brother, Bobby Kay Smith; sisters, Brindel Faye Smith, Gwen Hurst, and Joanie Dickerson; grandchildren, TJ, Autumn, and Harley Guynn; several step-grandchildren; and many nieces, nephews, and cousins, including his special niece, Ginger Atkinson.

Skeeter will be remembered for the many miles he traveled, the friendships he made, and the lives he touched along the way. He will be deeply missed by his family and the many friends who had the pleasure of knowing him.
