1927 Betty 2024

Marion Elizabeth Pearce Conner Harris

June 2, 1927 — January 23, 2024

Folkston

Betty, as she was known all her life to family and friends, was a long time resident of Folkston, Ga.  Born on June 2, 1927 in Jesup, GA to Jim Bedell Pearce, Sr. and Lucille Barnett Pearce. She was 96 years old when she went to her heavenly home on January 23, 2024. She moved to Folkston at the age of 5 and graduated from Charlton County High School in 1945. Betty was a 29 year breast cancer survivor, homemaker, talented seamstress, loving caretaker, multi-talented employee of the La Petite and Smart Shop, and frequently was seen pitching in at Conner Brothers grocery store. She was also a long-time active member of the Folkston Methodist Church.

In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by her first husband, James Jay Conner; brothers, Oscar Eugene Pearce and Jim B. Pearce, Jr.; niece, Sandra Gayle Pearce Boyd (living husband Raymond); son-in law, Robert Allen Denmark and second husband, Leavy Harris.

She is survived by two daughters, Gayle Conner Denmark and Brenda Conner; grandson James Bradley Denmark (wife Anna) and their children Asher and Dexter; grandson Brett Allen Denmark (wife Becca) and their children Juliet and Lorelei; granddaughter Erin Brooke Denmark; niece, Melodie Conner Boatwright (husband John), nephews Oscar ‘Butch’ Eugene Pearce and Robert ‘Bob’ Bedell Pearce (wife Dana), and several cousins and their children who were so close to her that they called her Aunt Betty: Cathy Stapleton, Barbara Stapleton Davis, Suzanne Stapleton Mazuck, Rosemary Stapleton Kriner, and Francis Stapleton MacDaniels.

Her daughters would like to express their heartfelt appreciation to some special people and facilities who provided care for their mother during her elderly years.  Bonnie Cooper became a frequent sitter for Betty during the past 6 years and allowed us to keep her in her home until recently by providing companionship and care. Also, appreciation goes to the wonderful care she received in Statesboro, GA during the past few months of her life at Southern Manor Assisted Living and its hospice care by nurse Jan Johnson and her hospice team and finally Ogeechee Area Hospice.

Arrangements are being made under the direction of Shepard-Roberson Funeral Home, Folkston, GA. Graveside services will be held at Pineview Cemetery in Folkston, GA at 2:00 PM on Friday, January 26, 2024 with Pastor John Boatright and Pastor Robbie Paulk officiating.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the American Cancer Society or the Folkston Methodist Church.
