Paul King Whittenburg, 72, of Hilliard, FL passed away March 24, 2023 in Jacksonville, FL. He was born September 4, 1950 in Rome, GA to the late Jack Whittenburg and Betty Jane Abston Whittenburg. He received his Bachelors Degree in Mechanical Engineering from Memphis State University where he played football for the Tigers and later received his Masters in Education from University of Phoenix. He began coaching at Hilliard Middle Senior High School in 1976 where he was the football coach for the Hilliard Flashes. He retired in 2012 after nearly four decades in education. During his career, he amassed 200 victories which ranks among the top coaching records in the state of Florida. After his retirement, he still volunteered his time and talents with the Charlton County Indians.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother: Stanley Whittenburg, M.D.
He is survived by his children: Gabe (Molly) Whittenburg, Jamie (Michael) Hill and Zack (Haylie) Whittenburg; grandchildren: Braden Whittenburg, Bailey Whittenburg, Connor Hill, Chase Hill, Lindsay Hill, Caleb Hill, Tucker Whittenburg, Carter Whittenburg and Blake Whittenburg; a brother: Dan (Johnnie) Whittenburg and a number of nieces and nephews and other relatives.
The family will receive friends Tuesday, March 28 from 6-8 PM at the First Baptist Church of Hilliard, 15850 County Road 108, Hilliard, FL. Funeral services will be held Wednesday, March 29 at 11:00 AM at First Baptist Church of Hilliard with Pastor Ryan Mason officiating. Burial will follow in Brickyard Cemetery.
