Peggy June McConnell, 77, of Hilliard, Florida passed away on Thursday, January 8, 2026. She was born in Owensboro, Kentucky on September 14, 1948, to the late Robert Henry “Pappy” Holland, Sr. and Della Catherine “Granny” Millay Holland. Throughout her childhood she called many places home but eventually settled in Hilliard, Florida. There, she would meet and marry the love of her life, Cris McConnell, after a well-timed offer of a stick of gum. They would go on to raise 2 sons, who she loved unconditionally.
She loved to spend her time volunteering for the town and others. She spent many tireless hours with the Hilliard Fire Department, Hilliard Elementary, the annual Town Clean-up, and sewing costumes for school, friends, and family.
She had a passion for various crafts, loved any animal she came across, and adored The Wizard of Oz. You could often find her and a friend running around with a net catching butterflies to create beautiful butterfly art. From sewing to needlepoint she had a keen knack of exceling at anything she put her mind to. She always joked that she could do anything except knit or crochet.
She will be immensely missed by all those that knew and loved her.
In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by her brother: Robert Henry “Gunner” Holland; and sister: Ann Holland Buchanan.
She is survived by her loving husband of 56 years: Cris “Mackie” McConnell; 2-sons: Jason (Angela) McConnell and Lance (Prissy) McConnell; 4-grandchildren: Brittany (Allen) Leitner, Tyler McConnell, Hannah McConnell and Trey Hall; great-grandson: Hudson Leitner; sister: Sarah Holland (James) Mosley, a host of nieces and nephews., and her rescue dog, Mary.
A service will be held at 1:00 PM on Tuesday, January 13, 2026, at Shepard-Roberson Funeral Home with Pastor Arlie Johns officiating. Burial, for family only, will follow at Oakwood Cemetery in Hilliard, Florida. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service.
