Ralph Lamar Wainwright, Sr., 91, of Folkston, went peacefully to be with the Lord on August 23, 2015 under the loving care of Amy Waldron, Kayleen Sumner and his daughters Terri Chauncey and Vickie Woodward. Ralph was born May 28, 1924 to the late Timothy and Katie Howell Wainwright. He came from a large family of 9 and 2 infant siblings who passed. Mr. Wainwright was a life-long resident of Charlton County. He proudly served in the US Army during WW II. Upon discharge from service, he completed a lengthy career with Gilman Paper Company. Mr. & Mrs. Wainwright, with family and friends, built Wainwright Produce where he, his wife, and Joseph Wainwright worked until they closed the market in 2005. They were well known for Ralph’s Boiled Peanuts. Ralph played the harmonica and looked forward to family gatherings where he could play for his children. He was an avid supporter of the Charlton County Indians, Atlanta Braves, and Georgia Bulldogs. Mr. Wainwright, a Christian, was a member of Grace Chapel Baptist Church. He was preceded in death by his wife: Margaret L. Wainwright; a daughter: Sharon W. McGauley; a son: Keith Wainwright; 2-Granddaughters: April Altman & Caitlyn Wainwright; 4-Brothers: Kenneth, Phillip, Shelly & J.S. Wainwright; 3-Sisters: Martha Lee Morgan, Francis Wainwright & Dorris W. Brooks.
Left to cherish his memory are a sister: Betty Sue Jackson; 4-Daughters: Vickie W. Woodward (Curtis), Terri W. Chauncey (Lynn), Susan W. Altman (Morris), & Sonja W. Hinkle (Mike); 5-Sons: Ralph L. Wainwright, Jr., Richard Wainwright (Vivian), Gregory Wainwright (Deborah), Bruce T. Wainwright (Rachael), Brian Wainwright (Mary); 22-grandchildren & 20-Great Grandchildren.
The family will receive friends Wednesday, August 26 at Shepard Funeral Home in Folkston, GA from 6-8 PM. Funeral services will be held Thursday, August 27 at 11:00 AM at Grace Chapel Baptist Church with Rev. John Boatright officiating. Burial will follow in Sardis Cemetery.
