Rev. John Harris Touchton, Jr., 95, of Folkston, GA, went home to be with his Lord and Savior on Sunday, March 3, 2024. He was born in Jacksonville, FL, on July 30, 1928, to the late John H. Touchton, Sr. and Mary Lou Hendry Touchton. Harris was saved at the age of 16. He preached his first sermon at the age of 18. He continued in the ministry throughout his life. He pastored Chester Baptist Church in Yulee, FL, and Live Oak Baptist Church in Callahan, FL. He was also an Associate and Interim Pastor for Main Street Baptist Church in Jacksonville, FL, and an Associate Pastor at Franklin Street Baptist Church in Jacksonville, FL.  He preached his final sermon titled “Worthy Is the Lamb” on January 7, 2024, at the age of 95, at Rehoboth Christian Fellowship where he was a member. Harris led many people to salvation and helped change many lives. He lived selflessly and served the Lord. He was always helping others. He studied God’s Word and was a disciple of Jesus. He loved to write and wrote numerous manuscripts about the study of scripture. He published a book entitled “Six Cities of Refuge and Seven Pieces of Armor.” Harris served in the United States Army and served in Korea prior to the Korean War. He started at the railroad in 1950 and retired from there after 31 years of service. He was a Florida Gators fan.

In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by 5-siblings; Jean Touchton Sandville, Marilyn Touchton Collins, Elura Touchton Grissom, Wayne Touchton and Keith Touchton.

He is survived by his loving wife of 67 years; Elizabeth Bohannon Touchton, 4-children; Vanessa Touchton Danford, Patrick Touchton, John (Angie) Touchton, and Michael (Nickie) Touchton, a brother; Gordon Touchton, 10-grandchildren; Amanda Thrasher, Lester Griffin, Amy Edde, Jeremy Touchton, John M. Touchton, Christa Buckley, Joshua Touchton, Daniel Touchton, Leila Nogueria, and Sandee Hill, 17-great-grandchildren, his caregiver; Latasha Hobbs, and numerous other relatives that loved and adored him. 

A service will be held at 2:00 PM on Saturday, March 9, 2024, at Rehoboth Christian Fellowship with Rev. Terry Gore and Pastor Lisa King officiating. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service. Private burial at Jacksonville National Cemetery will be at a later date. Honorary pallbearers will be Patrick Touchton, John Carson Touchton, Michael Touchton, Lester Griffin, Daniel Touchton, Jeremy Touchton, John Michael Touchton, and Joshua Touchton.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to the Rehoboth Christian Fellowship Building Fund.

The family would like to extend their gratitude to Georgia Hospice Care.
