Thelma Gowen

Thelma Taylor Gowen, 92, of Folkston, GA passed away Thursday, August 22, 2019 in Hilliard, FL.  She was born August 23, 1926 in Folkston, GA to the late Richard C. Taylor and Cora Belle Crews Taylor.  She was the Charlton County Tax Collector for a number of years.  She was a member of Grace Chapel Baptist Church.

Along with her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband:  Barney B. Gowen, Jr.; her siblings:  Banner Taylor, Roy A. Taylor and his wife, Doris, and Owen Taylor and his wife, Betty Lou.

She is survived by her children:  Francis “Wayne” Gowen, Andrew H. (Bridget) Gowen, and Linda Wilson; grandchildren:  Janell G. (James) Brown, Rachel M. (Zach Claunch) Gowen, Barney B. “B.B.” Gowen, III, Stephen N. Gowen, Andrew H. (Taylor Johns) Gowen, Jr., William “Will” (Hannah Nelson) Gowen, Jackson B. “Jack” Gowen, Dalton D. “Bo” (Morgan) Tippins, Joseph J. “Jesse” Gowen, Jacob J. “Jake” Gowen, Chad Thompson and Sidney Thompson; 9-Great Grandchildren; siblings:  Geraldine Crowther, Betty Jo Herrin and Travis (Jo)  Taylor; a sister-in-law:  Jane Gowen Thompson and a host of nieces, nephews and other relatives.

A memorial service will be held Saturday, August 24 at 11:00 AM at Grace Chapel Baptist Church.  The family will receive friends an hour prior to the service at the church.  Her grandsons will serve as pallbearers and her friends at the Charlton County Senior Center will serve as honorary pallbearers.

Memorialization will be by cremation.
