Uly Raymond Nicks, age 70, passed away peacefully at his home in Del Rio, Tennessee, on October 24, 2025. He was born on July 5, 1955, in Folkston, Georgia to James and Elizabeth Buchanan Nicks.
Uly spent the early part of his life in Hilliard, Florida, where he was known for his hard work, big heart, and love of family. At the age of 45, he moved to Tennessee to build his life on Neddy Mountain—a place that perfectly reflected his love for the mountains and the beauty of nature.
Uly was a true maverick—a free spirit who lived life on his own terms. His laughter, kindness, and adventurous heart touched everyone who knew him. He found joy in simple moments and cherished the company of family and friends.
He is survived by his devoted life partner, Kathy Styles; his children, Joseph Nicks and Heather (Danny) Evans; his beloved grandchildren, Joshua (Brooke) Nicks, Carson Reese, and Makenzie Reese; and his cherished great-granddaughter, Elizabeth Nicks. Uly was also blessed with several “bonus” children and grandchildren, all of whom held a special place in his heart.
He is also survived by his brothers and sisters, Jimmy (Betty) Nicks, Craig (JoAnn) Nicks, Sylvia Whittenburg, David (Margo) Nicks, Mary Ann (John) VanZant, and Kenneth (Melody) Nicks; along with several nieces and nephews who loved him dearly.
Uly was preceded in death by his son, Adam Nicks; his parents, James and Elizabeth Nicks; and his sister, Gloria Nicks.
Uly’s memory will live on in the hearts of all who loved him. He has gone home to be with the Lord he loved so dearly, leaving behind a legacy of love, laughter, and a deep appreciation for the simple beauty of life in the mountains.
